Only a fragment of the score survives of Bach's Christmas cantata Ehre sei Gott in der Hohe BWV 197a, composed to a text from the Picander cycle of 1728, insufficient to allow a reconstruction of the complete cantata. The fragment begins with the end section of an aria which Bach later transferred into his wedding cantata Gott ist unsre Zuversicht BWV 197. The movement, a lullaby of dreamlike beauty, has long been known as a particular jewel amongst Bach's cantatas. Starting with the surviving end section from the fragmentary score plus Bach's later revision, Diethard Hellmann has convincingly reconstructed the original version so that this aria can also be performed at Christmas. Bach's Wedding Cantata BWV 197 is available separately (Carus 31.197/50). Score and parts available separately - see item CA.3119700.

The cantata Argre dich, o Seele, nicht BWV 186 is in a sense the companion work to the much better-known cantata Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben BWV 147. Both were composed in Advent 1716 as Bach's last two cantatas for the Weimar court, and both were arranged for another Sunday in Bach's first Leipzig cantata cycle by the addition of recitatives and a large-scale chorale movement, heard at the end of both parts. The sound of the Cantata BWV 186 is characterized by the four-part woodwind ensemble writing. The final chorale, heard twice, anticipates the opening choruses of the chorale cantatas from Bach's second cycle. Cantata BWV 186 for the 7th Sunday after Trinity is a considerably expanded reworking of a Weimar Advent cantata of 1716. Only the text survives of the Advent cantata, but Diethard Hellmann has been able to reconstruct the work from the later version (Carus 31.186). Score and part available separately - see item CA.3118600.

After the successful transcription for piano of some movements of Bach's orchestral suites B. Kistler-Liebendörfer transcribed for piano Adagio movements of Bach's sonatas for violin and harpsichord in F minor (BWV 1018), C minor (BWV 1017) and E major (BWV 1016), expanding thus the pianist's Baroque repertory. The edition is recommended for students of conservatories and music academies.

Bach's cantata for solo soprano Mein Herze schwimmt im Blut was written during the summer of 1714 for the Weimar Court service on the 11th Sunday after Trinity. The cantata text by the Darmstadt Court poet Georg Christian Lehms (1684-1717), based on the well-known parable of the Pharisee and the publican, takes on extraordinary potency and intensity of expression in Bach's setting. Bach performed this cantata several times, in Weimar, and also during his years at Cothen aud Leipzig, meanwhile making various alterations. Our publication is based principally on the Leipzig version of 1723, whose instrumentation includes, in addition to the solo oboe and the customary strings and continuo, a violoncello piccolo. The appendix to our edition presents variants for certain movements from Bach's earlier performances, including a Cothen version with obbligato viola da gamba which is particularly interesting for present-day practice.
